  • Grundig 5 year warranty, same recurring fault.. Consumer rights

    (*) Digital touch screen replacement.

    (") Faulty door release mechanism.

I bought a Grundig washing machine from Curry's in 2018, it came with a 5 year extended warranty over the last 4 years it has had the same fault (*) recurring and Grundig/Becko have replaced the part at their expense. The first time the fault (*) was reported was within the first 2 years and the 2nd 18 months ago and 3rd was less than 1 month ago, a different separate fault (") arose after the engineer had messed with the machine this too was reported and another engineer was arranged but I questioned my Consumer rights on not rejecting any further repairs. I was advised by the call handler at Grundig the engineer coming would make the decision on whether the machine is beyond economical repair as it would be the 4th call out. When they arrived, he said there is no background information regards the machine so he must treat the issue (") as a first call out. They did not have the relevant parts to fix this repair and they would call again this coming Friday.. In the time from 20th this month of his visit the original issue (*) has started again. So, I have had to call them back yesterday and advised of the recurring problem and they would report to the engineer and they would call me today!... Well, no call as I thought there wouldn't be, so I call them (The engineers) who state they have had no contact from Grundig and they must come out on the original repair and then report on the recurring issue (*).. I asked about Beyond Economical repair, they stated that has nothing to do with them but Grundig themselves, if they have the part available, they must just continue to replace and repair..

So today I have once again called Grundig who have said the replacement of the Machine has been rejected by the relevant department and the continuance of repair will go ahead

My concern is the warranty is going to run out next year but I will be left with the issue there after?

    Hi Stu

How did you pay for it?

It's nonsense, pointless keeping a history of faults, when they seemingly air brush the history away when it suits them.

Thanks for the super quick reply ECHAT11 I am hoping to have a battle plan for them before they come again to repair.. I'm not 100% sure if I paid with my Debit Card or Credit Card but it was one of either.

To be honest, after the second repair you should of acted.

          a) You need to find out how you paid, if Credit Card, then they might be able to do something under Section 75.

          https://www.financial-ombudsman.org....-bought-credit

You can send them a SAR, they have 30 days to provide the details of your account, so will show the payment for washing machine. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

          b) Write a Formal Letter of Complaint, mark it as such. Explain all the faults /repairs, explain that it's totally unsatisfactory (plus time and stress caused to you), and explain what you want them to do as a resolution. (Tell them that they are trying to reset the clock regarding first repair etc.)
