  • New Boiler - Poor workmanship

    Hi All,

It's been a while since I have been on here, but need the assistance of the hive mind.

I recently bought a house with my wife, had the boiler replaced the week after moving in by a national company (I won't name names yet) but the installer they sent out was more focused on getting home on time than doing a decent job.

He did a poor job of the pipework, the pipes now vibrate as he did not saddle them, he went diagonally across the airing cupboard with another, now I'm paranoid about knocking it as he used push fit connectors not soldered joints on it. He then burst a couple of the bricks on the outside of the house when drilling a couple of holes as he didnt make any pilot holes and went full on hulk with a drill, made no attempt to repair them. Then cracked a couple of the roof tiles and made a messy patch up job with some cement. The lead slate isnt flat on one corner, so and rain with some wind will get in there. The proceeded to chuck rubbish all over the loft and fill the old cold water tank with pipes and rubbish instead of taking it away.

I've spoken to the national company about this, they said they need to send the same installer out again even though my wife and I don't want him back in the house. They said the installer should be in contact with us to arrange a date to remedy the issues but nothing as of yet, that was on Friday. Communications have now dried up with the company. I sent them an email with a quote I had for repair of the roof which is £300, no response.

When the company spoke to the installer last week, he denied damaging the tiles, yet when he was here his comment was "It's not the first time I've done it, and wont be the last" I spoke to the surveyor that did the survey for the house as we have only just bought it and he confirmed there were no damaged tiles in that area.

I paid using my debit card, so no section 75.

    What are my options?

As well as sending the letter in post 2 to the firm you used.

Send the following letter to your debit card provider. Make sure you get Proof of Postage. They can apply some pressure on the firm to complete the work, then you can try to resolve the cost of the damage with the firm.
