  • Rejecting an Auto renewal.

I previously had Norton 360 anti virus on my lap top but 2 years ago I could buy a 1 year licence for less then the renewal quote so I opted to purchase from Costco and did not renew online. However I could not register the new software to my email address and the only way to install it was to use an obsolete email address. I was not aware that buried in the small print was auto renewal. However early this year Norton renewed for £84.99 when I can but a one year licence for £17.99. Norton claim that as I have one lap top and two desk tops on the account that the renewal is almost 5 times the cost of a single use licence. However I don't own one let alone two desk top computers. Theyt were clearly nor registered by me.
Norton didn't not offer any solution to cancelling the contract just saying that I have to do by going onto the online account. Given that I had to use an obsolete email address as the only way to install the software I am unable to access the account. There must be a way to reject and auto renewal through the credit card company if the vender is being unco-operative. So far they have chosen not to do so. Norton are operating out of the Republice of Ireland, surprise surprise, if that makes any difference.

I have done however the vendor (Norton) says that it is part of their T&Cs and the card company rejects the charge back. I had an almighty row with the card company a few weeks back and they re-instated the charge back then got another letter from then today wanting evidense of the purchase. Phoned them up again pointing out that it was an auto renewal and that they have taken it upon themselves to auto renew for 2 computers that I don't own. In any case three stand alone licences would be 3 times £17.99=£53.97 so why was the auto renewal for £84.99?
I can almost, but I don't, accept the failure to stop the auto renwal if it was for one lap top, not the two mythical desk tops which are clear fraud.

Don't speak to them over the phone, keep everything in writing.

Google CMA and Norton together. (I can't post the link).
