  • Problem with vodafone

I have just upgraded to superfast 2 with Vodafone at start April and since last weekend i have been getting a max download speed of 8Mb.

I have spent hours o the phone/live chat with no joy

they have sent a new router, eventually, still the same and are still stalling over the issue

I believe they are throttling lines and are failing to fulfill their speed promise

How do i stand re telling them to stick their contract without paying the outstanding contract?

In my opinion this is a total failing from them to fulfill their side of the contract

    Thanks in advance

Before you upgraded did you check that superfast was available in your location?

        Hi and thanks for reply

Yes available and the full 79Mb is coming into my house

I know they are throttling although they will not admit it as other services work

It is only streaming services that are not

          Hi ostell

          30-35mb download speeds

I am getting 8 tops and i am 99% certain it is because they are throttling my line but they won't admit it

I have sent screenshots of speeds into them but they just keep making promise after promise with no joy

Promised call by midnight last night again nothing

But have they defined what they expect your service to be

              ostell

The service is 73.6mb broadband with speeds up to 63mb download

              guaranteed 35mb

              hope this helps

So write to them and tell them that they are not upholding their end of the contract and you wish to leave without penalty.

But where are you going to go? How are you measuring your speed? Could the sites you are streaming from have a problem?

I thought that but wasn't sure how i stood legally

                  BT probably

                  Vodafone are known for throttling

                  Measuring speed with apps/browsers

No these are streaming apps that work perfectly on others devices and if i use them on my phones 4G

it can only be them trying to block my streaming

Can you measure the speed in the modem? This what they will be using.

                      ostell

yes it is full speed into the house which is how i know they are throttling my line

i have sent screen shots into their tech team proving the download speeds i am receiving but they will not acknowledge that they are blocking streaming sites

they have replace router after much resistance but the problem is still the same

if they admit they are throttling then i have got them on that and if they don't admit it then i surely have them on breach of contract for download speeds?

So the speed is constantly high at the modem, with no dips? It could be a problem within the connection from the site you are streaming from to the vodafone network

No these are streaming apps that play fine on 4g phone in the same room at the same time

They are clearly blocking/restricting these kind of apps

so that in my opinion is still a breach of contract as i cannot get required download speeds.

Below 10Mbps these apps will not stream which is why they restrict to 7/8 max

The internet route to your phone is different to the network route to your PC. I only takes one computer in the chain to be slow to mess everything up.

If you are on Windows PC then use the dos command "tracert" to check the network between you and where you are trying to stream from. One of those machines in the route could be having problems.

For example I tried "tracert www.bbc.co.uk" on my computer and it went through 12 devices before it got to the BBC website. One of those links was giving problems and it took 2 attempts to return a response

Yes i understand that but the problems are with android box. fire stick streaming videos/tv

that is what they are blocking / restricting

if i take the same box to a mates house it plays fine (BT) but on mine it buffers due to restricted speeds

so i can prove the problem is their end and is surely a breach of contract if they refuse to lift restrictions
