  • Car Rejection - Engine Gone After 4 Months

    Hi All,

Will keep this short and sweet, September 6th, 4 Months and 9 Days after the car was delivered ( purchased via finance ), bottom end of the engine started to knock. The selling garage agreed to inspect the car, on September 12th via a recorded conversion the garage acknowledged the engine fault and confirmed that the engine needs to be replaced and that they will action this at their cost by their preferred repairer.

The car only completed 1611 miles from when it was delivered and was purchased for £8k 2015 reg. The car has now been in the possession of the seller for 4 Months and 18 Days and the engine has not been replaced and zero updates have been given after i've enquired via phone calls 36 times.

My question is, now that a reasonable period for repair has been given by myself but because the car has been under repair by the seller for 4 Months which has pushed my ownership length to 8 months, am i still entitled to reject the car via the financning company without having to prove the fault was inherited? I assume that because the fault was acknowledged and the repair agreed prior to the 6 month period that the rejection time frame would freeze to stop dealers/garage from simply dragging out the time line?

    Any feedback is much appreciated.

Clock stops when fault reported and restarts when repair satisfactory. I would start rejecting the car because it has not been a reasonable time to repair. I think CRA mentions this. Take it up with the credit company, it's their property, unless it is a loan

Thanks for the response Ostell. I was hoping it would be the case with the clock stopping. I've sent my rejection request, hopefully it's a smooth ride.
