  • Local Pubwatch Scheme

Is this a Civil Rights Issue?

Anyone know about Local Pub Watch groups?

What can you do if they ban you from the groups pubs? They seem to have the support of the Police and Council but there's no independent appeals process. Our local one is a very secretive organisation and hides behind a contact form on their website and do not even publish a postal address or name of the person running it. There is nothing of use on the national website either.

Are such schemes subject to the Data Protection Act? They could be holding all kinds of personal data and making banning decisions on data that may be incorrect but it seems there is no redress available. One can only appeal to the scheme which seems a bit pointless.

I know of someone who is the subject of a ban and yet they haven't been told why and no one seems to know - or isn't saying. They suspect a personal element in the ban but can't get any proof. They have no idea who is involoved in this kangeroo court that has found them guilty and passed judgement.

Hi there is info on the National pubwatch in this link http://www.nationalpubwatch.org.uk/faq/#faq-1459 I think most of your questions will be answered reading that.
It is a civil matter as I don't think any legislation applies to any of it. Just to add public houses are private premises and the landlord/lady has the right to ban anyone without giving a reason.
