  • Auto Motive Garages

this happened to a friend of mine at work and was wondering if anyone can comment if she has a chance of getting the repairs redone free of charge

"8 year old Vauxhall Corsa. 1.0 litre engine

Original problem: Initially failed to go above 4000rpm or 70mph on motorway on way to work. Next morning, following night shift, spluttered and difficult to drive off car park. Engine kept cutting out, eventually could not move at all. Turned engine off and waited an hour, eventually got home but with similar lack of power.

Went to garage. Got new oxygen sensor, new spark plugs with full service. Car sounded healthier.

Couple of days later, got on M6 at Jct 22 was driving approx 80mph, speed started to decrease, put foot all the way down on the accelerator, car slowed from 80mph to approx 30mph before Jct 23. (This is a short distance)."

    cheers

    Re: Auto Motive Garages

It sounds like an engine management problem, possibly throttle position sensor or similar.

If the garage had checked the problem and had said that was definitely the fault with the O2 sensor then she needs to return it to the garage and tell them it hasn`t cured the problem.

On the cosa they should be able to plug into the engine management system and read the "fault codes" to help identify the problem. If it now turns out to be a different problem she should ask for either a refund on the original work done or a reduced price for any additional work done.

Many problems like this are hard to pinpoint exactly and unfortunately it is sometimes trial and error. The parts they replaced initially may still have been faulty and this may be an additional problem that requires more parts/repairs.

    Hope this helps Sol
