  • "Active" and "Dormant" on Companies house register

I wanted to buy a household item over £1k from a company on their website and was about to confirm the order when I decided to stop and check the company out on the C H. register.
The company was stated "Active" and "Dormant". Their accounts stated "0" for the last 3 years. There are customer reviews on their website for purchase during this period
I decided to buy from another company.
It is my understanding that a company has to file annual accounts if transactions exceed £500
Who is checking filed company accounts?

The answer is that no one checks. That is until an issue is reported.

Just for information for others reading the thread, "Active" on the CH register has a specific legal definition and doesn't necessarily mean the company is actively trading.

It just means the company is on the register and hasn't been dissolved and isn't in liquidation or going through strike off proceedings.

So for CH purposes an "Active" company can be dormant or not trading.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
