  • Question about family run business

    Hello everyone,

I had a job done by a family run business and that's how they advertise in the local press. I'm sure they are father and son. Looking online the father is on Instagram as the proprietor of the business with photos of the work they have completed. Yet on two websites which connects homeowners with approved local tradespeople and reviews are left for the business the son is registered as a sole trader. They are not a limited company on their official paperwork. Is this a case of fraudulent or wrongful trading? Just to add more information the father has previous convictions for defrauding customers.

    Hi Welcome to LB
What was the name/trading name provided on the quotation and/or invoice?

(Surname) Paving would rather not identify them at this stage.

Are you happy with the work done by this business? You do not say.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

Just the surname does not identify the trader. HMRC require the full personal name (as registered with HMRC) of a trader on invoices to aid the identification of self-assessment tax returns

Who did you make payment to? The son or the father?

The father, the man who refused to return to my property. Conned my elderly and disabled husband.

Do you have the father's name and address (or his business premises address)? Don't post it

                    Thank you for your reply.

Home address is same as the son's address and father and son use the same business address and headed paperwork.

Say the father's name is Joe Bloggs
If the workmanship is poor or unfinished and they will not return, make good and finish your court claim would be against Joe Bloggs T/A Bloggs Paving

You should write to the father at his business address and politely give him 7 days to return, make good and complete the work.

Did your husband pay in full for the work?

Are you able to take photos of the defects and unfinished work?
