  • No service delivered by South African freelancer

    Hi,

I've been working with a South African freelance web developer for the past year and they've been great thus far. They've delivered everything without issue. In November of last year I hired them to do some work meant to be finished by end of January. I paid £700. When it was late I was understanding. I should clarify that I foolishly don't have a contract and only an invoice which doesn't mention a deadline. I probably became too trusting.
Last week I contacted them for an update and they said they need another 6 months and they can't show me any progress. I asked for a refund but they said they can't do that.

My question now is do I have any recourse to be able to get my money back considering they're located in another country. I also can't afford expensive legal services.

    Any advice is appreciated. TIA.

    Tia,

You may have to take legal action in South Africa.

It may be cheaper and quicker to write this off and pay someone else to start again.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf
