  • Double payment of expenses

Hi there, I was mistakenly paid twice by a company - not for work done but for expenses that were incurred. The double payment was their error. The payment itself was 4 months late, but nonetheless was double paid - which I genuinely did not notice until I received an email informing me of this. The amount is now something I am not in a position to pay back and I am in distress about this, is there a time period where they can reclaim this? Am I obliged to pay this back? Thanks so much

Unfortunately the likelihood is that you will have to repay. I suggest that you explain your difficulty and negotiate repayment over a period of time.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read this: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

thank you for the reply. Is there an amount of time that is usual to address these mistakes from the company - for example, are there allowances if the request has been after 60 days ?
      Thanks again in advance

I would say not. You owe the money but as it was a mistake by the company they should give you time to repay and accept installments
