  • Lease agreement unpaid rent.

    Hi Legalbeagles.

I was looking for some advice for a friend so if the information is vague please forgive me.

A friend has just received a letter from a landlord of a premises he used to let, he was in a partnership and resigned in August 2020 going on to set up a new business.

He has received a letter today saying there is unpaid rent of approx 10 months, he never dealt with the rent side and all payments came out of the ex partners personal account.

Now he resigned in August and thinks it started approx 4 months before then, he also signed a lease agreement which iv asked him to get a copy of to see if there are any personal guarantees on this.

Now im not a solicitor or legal rep so wanted to know if anyone could shed any light on were he would stand would he only have to pay unpaid rent while in office as a director, or if there is no personal guarantee nothing at all? It may be worth mentioning that the company he has left is currently owing numerous other people and company's money so this isn't the first time.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
