Using PPP for back rent?

Does anyone have smart guidance about how to pay for rent with PPP money and have it be forgivable?

In particular, I’m trying to figure out if I can use it for back payments? For example, we didn’t pay rent on April 1st, and we’re late with the May payment as well. Barring the PPP, I’m going to break my lease and just not pay, but would love to make back payments, if possible, from PPP.

I’ve seen some advice either way, but nothing definitive.

Looking at your reference to PPP, I assume you are in the USA.
