Hello,
I'm caring for a disabled lady who is now in receipt of Universal Credit as her only income. She has a number of debts for credit cards and loans (totalling about £13,000) and receives letters from various debt collection agencies from time to time.
If one of these debt collection agencies took a debt to the County Court and were awarded a CCJ, can the creditor ask Universal Credit to make deductions from her benefit? I have tried to read up on the DWP and these sorts of scenarios, and it's clear that deductions can be made for things like current rent arrears, when a tenant still lives in the property and is liable to pay rent, or current household bills, when a tenant still lives in the property and is using electricity/gas/water, but makes no mention of historic debts for credit cards and loans.
Thank you
Kind regards
