Hi all, a little advice please.
I had a near fatal illness that has taken me 12 months to get over after surgery etc. I am now enjoying my 3rd month of being well again. Unfortunately i am a self employed contractor in the IT realm and had to leave my 7 year standing contract as i was not an employee. Having no sick pay etc my money soon ran out and Barclaycard put my card on hold to help me. After 8 months i have a letter from PRA group and in the same envelope a fake letter from Barclaycard. Printed Barclaycard logo on blank paper not the usual proper Barclaycard logo headed paper....From "Your Barclaycard Team" no signature. The PRA letter and fake Barclaycard letter have sequential serial numbers on the edge of border. How blatantly dishonest can PRA be? impersonating Barclaycard? There is no way Barclaycard sent this letter. The fake Barclaycard letter states they have sold the debt. The PRA letter states they have recently purchased the outstanding balance and rights..(add interest etc) and goes onto say they have passed the debt to CSL to collect and i need to make arrangements with them. I am broke at the moment on low universal credit starting to look for work. Debtline are helping with some guidance. But before i commit to that route, and as i hate these debt purchasing companies who profiteer on peoples misery so much i dont want to miss a potential avenue.
I have a few questions if i may.
Old school way i have read was to dispute and seek a signed copy of the CCA. Is this still viable? i think i arranged the card online and no signature is possible i think.
If its a sample CCA given to me does it has to be precise, ie. My Full name, Address, and the CORRECT credit limit now? or the credit limit when i made the agreement? easy to find current credit limit on Experian.
Are CSL part of the PRA Group ?
Should everyone by default, in this situation ask for Notices of Assignment. Do these have to have signatures from Barclaycard, as in actually signed ?
I have written to CSL saying i am taking advice and i will get back to them at the end of the week with a response.
I feel bad as i always intended to catch up when back in work, but Barclaycard obviously couldn't wait any longer and even mentioned on the phone it may result in them eventually selling the debt when i was unwell, and she felt bad saying that as not so much as a sniff of a missed payment in 10 years.
Input of any kind would be appreciated.
