Charges on property

Hi, I'm new to the forum and look forward to being part of it.... I have 3 charges on my property which is mortgaged in joint names with my husband. These debts are in his name and I would like to either sell the house or remortgage. Would I be best to employ a solicitor to negotiate on my behalf? My husband and I are separated and he has never lived in the house and does not have the means to settle the debts. Thanks in advance
