Hi There, I'm new and really would be grateful for some advice if anyone can help. Unfortunately I had to declare myself bankrupt 7 years ago, discharged a year later. Last year I was approached by a company to reclaim PPI. I had never bothered before, having two children, one of whom has special needs, and thought that I wouldn't be able to due to the bankruptcy.
This particular day I very unusually listened to the caller and explained the position, and bankruptcy, and ended up agreeing to let them look into things for me. They said that the bankruptcy was at that time over 6 years and so not an issue. This was over a year ago.
They've just contacted me to say that Lloyd's TSB have confirmed that both the loan and credit card I had with them had PPI, asked me to confirm some employment and personal details, which I did, and am now to wait for them to confirm whether they will pay out or not.
In the meantime, I don't know why, but I decided to Google whether I am entitled to this. I truly believed nothing would come of it and am so busy that I have never thought twice about it, however I've just read that the OR will want all these funds, and that I could be responsible for the reclaiming company's fees for claiming it.
This has left me really worried. I'm a working single Mum with two children and really couldn't handle any more bills.
My question is, if the companies do pay out, as it is so long ago, are they likely to pay straight to the OR. If not and I receive the payout, should I accept it or get in touch with the OR and explain the situation. I don't want to have committed any offences, and from what I've read, it seems as though the OR should have already made the claim by now - which they haven't. Will I get into trouble? Or should I just keep quiet and trust that the matter is closed as for as the OR is concerned.
It can't be too large an amount, the accounts were only around 18 months old when I went into bankruptcy, but I am worried. Of course if there is a refund the funds would be hugely useful, but not at the risk of committing an offence.
Any advice would be truly gratefully received.
Many thanks
