Yes we know that Orangemen parade as do nationalists. If , as has been suggested Sinn Fein want to use this to recommence unification talks this can only lead to the return of the troubles.
Sorry -not Nem here (I have a much darker moustache!!!!!)
There are parades and then there are protest marches. People parading to commemorate or celebrate might be seen as provocative to some but a bunch of fanatics going on a rampage is a different matter altogether.
The problem I foresee in Ireland is nationalist’s believe they have the right to move freely across the border between the republic and the six UK counties just like they have a right to dual nationality. This is not a big ask at the moment and along with many other concessions has helped to keep things relatively peaceful but as we know it is still a very fragile situation. Now if Northern Ireland’s boarder with the south is also a land border between EU and Non EU territory then having people rambling back and forth might not go down too well. Actually -Perhaps we should have a few of these racist patrol it! Now that would be an all ticket event!

clearly you do not understand the troubles in NI and the claim that reunification of NI with the republic is needed.Originally posted by nemesis45 View PostOrangemen Berti where did this enter into the EU referendum?
The racial tension has been there for a long time prior to the vote.
And my pond is still 6 feet deep so no change there
By by the way, we have had two downgrades of our credit status today I believe, Moody's and S&P. I know officially the euro is worth about 1.20 but today I saw an exchange rate of £1.40 for €[ .
We we are a long long way from sorting this mess out.
What at happens if the UK ceases to exist and becomes England and Wales, can we still take a seat at the top table and be one of the P5

By by the way, have petrol prices started to increase yet seeing as the pond is at a 31 year low against the dollar.
what is truly terrifying is that there are reports of more racial tension in the UK. Of course , as long as it's them being picked on "we" whomever we are, are quite safe. So let's scapegoat the Europeans and other immigrants, at least then we don't have to blame ourselves.

Democracy is flawed, Plato knew that, the Athenians used to appoint short term dictators in times of trouble. I will be happy to take on that role and rip up the referendum results.
What at is stopping the government doing just that?
I suspect a fear of the far right and all that will mean, the people will get dragged along just as the German people did from 1933, once they realised what was going on it was too late

That's all very well but when the various treaties were signed, the sovereignty surrendered was on a temporary basis. It has always been possible for the UK to walk away from the EU and retake sovereignty.Originally posted by Openlaw15 View PostSovereignty is defined as 'supreme authority. The UK surrendered its supreme authority in 1972 where currently any Treaty; Treaty Article, EU Regulation; ECJ (court) decision is binding on the UK and all other 27 Member States. When the ECJ makes a decision unlike the UK's common law system it could be made into EU Treaty law: case Van Gend En Loos. See Factortame for EU being authorative. I would say that substantially affects sovereignty when EU law is automatically effective in the UK and 27 member state legal systems.
The EU may be unique in that it is the worlds only supranational organisation but it has helped to secure peace and democracy in Europe. I am sure you are aware of the democratic thesis - democratic countries do not go to war against each other

[QUOTE=nemesis45;658226]Fair play to any foreign investor who is brave enough to put money into the UK. I certainly wouldn’t and most of them feel the same. (not that I have a lot to risk anyway!)Originally posted by PAWS View Post

Unfortunately the scene linked above is nothing new, these " parades" " demonstrations " by nationalist and immigrants have been happening for a considerable time but have had little mention on UK news media particularly the BBC.
Personally I see little change in our daily life or our future one article 50 is activated changes of course will happen but slowly.
I know of a business sold today to a French conglomerate with absolute faith in the UK show by the buyer.

I am quite lucky and have never, in the 30 years I have lived here had anyone say anything horrible to me even when the IRA was bombing the mainland. Not that I am very sensitive; I was always called ‘Paddy’ at work and college and it never bothered me but thankfully no ‘go home paddy’ or similar unpleasant stuff. Actually it is only my Mother in Law who has ever said anything really unpleasant but, well she doesn’t really like anyone!
Now you are quite right, there has always been racism and pretty ugly displays by these gits but it seems to be bolder, more confident and either more widespread (or, to be fair, more news worthy) since Friday.
Not good to see it carried out by, or against children. Very sickening.

[QUOTE=Amethyst;658228]Despite disagreeing with his politics, I am very proud to have Dennis Skinner as my MP - he's just a really decent chap.
Ah,it was great to see good old Dennis back -he was quite ill recently. He has sat on that seat for many, many years and when the Scottish MPs first rocked up en masse, they took it. I know no one has a divine right to any seat except the front benches but I was outraged when they pushed him off his regular perch. He got it back though.
I like Dennis, always have.
