Hi.
I was living in a friend's house (He was caretaker for the previous owner who was deceased).
We were given short notice to move out, which we did. Unfortunately this meant I had left a large amount of valuable (both monetarily and sentimentally) personal items in the house, belonging to myself and my parents. After we moved, there was a period of time where we received no information as to what was happening with our belongings, and no access to the property, as the keys were handed over (once again, without my agreeance). All of this took place during the Covid lockdown, so I had no realistic opportunity to go to the house and collect my belongings. My friend (the caretaker) suggested I should collect my belongings, but this was not feasible during lockdown.
The house was emptied of all items, which were (according to the house clearance company) disposed of. This was in March 2022. I have not had any access to information regarding who orchestrated and organised the clearance until this evening.
I wish to claim for damages,
What are my next steps as far as the law goes?
