CCJ debt purchased by carbon finacial

Hi,
I made an offer of payment to Cabot to clear the debt, however they say I have to pay full amount as it was a CCJ.
I know they would have purchased the debt for less than the CCJ.
Its changed companies several times over the past 5 years.
the CCJ is from feb 2016 with no payment made on it.
Is this correct or are they spinning me a line?
