  • Council Tax refund.

Good evening. I need some advice. I am in a very new situation and I am trying to clarify what is the best thing to do acting within the law.

I lived in a shared flat with a contract in which it was specified that the council tax was paid by the tenant (which I did). When I left the flat the Council sent me a letter stating that they were going to refund me due to a mistake the landlord made: in our shared flat, she was supposed to pay the Council tax, but apparently she did not know. The council tax will refund my money in a few weeks, and my ex landlord is now asking me via email to give her this money they will refund me.

Does she has the right to ask this?

I want to understand if she has the right to have this money or, if not, if I can keep the money they will refund without incurring in legal issues.

    Thank you for your help.

    Regards,
    F.
