Hoping some one can advise? I was a Housing Association tenant up until a week ago and terminated my tenancy due to buying own home. However before I could move out I was given a list of jobs to do by the housing association such as pull down shed, paint walls white and generally leave the house in a basic clean order. Not a problem. However I was asked to move the three small floor boards in loft so I complied then was asked to remove cladding from loft. The loft was completely cladded like a Swedish sauna a loft I inherited as I moved into the home as a mutual exchange. The job is huge there are no floor boards to rest a ladder on it is just insulation and beams. I’m also a chronic asthmatic. Therefore I declined to remove cladding as I can not reach the wood I’m four foot eleven. I don’t feel safe and five minutes with insulation I’m having asthma attack onset. I can not afford to get anyone to remove the cladding as quoted in excess of a £1000. The housing association have said get my sons to do it all who are also asthmatic so again I’ve had to say no.*
The housing association are now saying I RBI’s my responsibility as I accepted the attic on mutual exchange except I was not aware of cladding in loft until after papers signed as it didn’t occur to me to investigate the loft when swapping homes. It’s a storage area. It’s certainly was not brought up in conversation by lady tenants or the housing officer dealing with swap. However during the termination of tenancy inspection the housing officer let go decking in the garden and a non standard kitchen floor saying it was fine leave it. I’m baffled as to why this is acceptable yet I’m being bullied and threatened with court over the loft? If I do pull this cladding off it’s stuffed with fibreglass insulation and it’s likely to land me in hospital or worse. I have sent a docs note and inhalers photos with prescription and the housing officers still are not taking this seriously.*
I am given the option of remove it or it’s a fine going into the thousands to remove it. I didn’t put it there. I’m not in health to do it without putting myself at risk and I can not afford a builder. the housing association are not bending at all. I had ten days to do all the work to the home before exit *as well so I’ve worked myself into the ground doing that whole moving and still working. Any advice on how to deal with the housing association at all? Because I feel the job is more construction than anything and I’m a nurse not a builder. Thank you*
