Hello everybody,
So my problem is this. I have a 10,800 pound debt with Erudio. They are the debt collection company that bought student loan debts from the Student Loans Company. I graduated in the mid 2000s and have been living in Mexico ever since, my earnings have never even been close to the 33,000 per annum threshold for repaymentand I have taken the option to defer repayment every year until now.*My application for deferment was delayed this year because their forms didn't arrive at my house in Mexico on time due to a postal service issue. This has happened before with no major inconvenience but this time they are saying that my opportunity to defer has now been missed because of the late application and I am no longer eligible for deferment, ever. They are requesting repayment in full. It's a lot of money especially in the Mexican economy and I'm really unable to pay it, but they are taking a very severe stance. Is it legal for them to remove permanently the option to defer? Can they force you to repay even though you don't have enough money? What happens if I simply don't pay, will they chase me all the way in Mexico for 10 thousand pounds? (I don't have any assets in the UK that they could sieze). Should I fill out and return the income and expenditure form that they are requesting in order that they set up a repayment plan for me?
Regards, Sam Critchley
