Court costs

Hi I could not attend a hearing and I sent an e-mail to the courts and a letter the defendant turned up and was awarded 300 pounds can I appeal this as it was unfair, also on another case I have 102 pounds to pay within 14 days as I am in financial difficulty what can I do?
