  • Non paying customer

    Hi there
    looking for help.
i gave a price to supply and fit a kitchen, carry out building works and supply and fit granite worktops
i gave the customer a payment plan 1 month before work started of dates and payment stages required.
the first payment was to cover the cost of the kitchen, 1 week later a payment was made to cover some labour and material charges. Last Friday I had a company that I have used for years to come and supply and install the worktops,
i notified my customer asking for payment of the worktops and a further payment for labour as on the payment text.
these were payments 3 and 4.
They never returned home that day and no monies were paid to me. My granite supplier went away empty handed so did I.
i telephoned customer and they said they would pay me 1 st thing Monday morning.
the following day they contacted my supplier behind my back and tried to re negotiate a better price
and asked him to go to there Saturday to collect his money, but they should have been paying me.
the then cancelled and asked him to go Monday, they then cancelled and told him they had paid me and that I had his money.
during the same day I missed a call from my customer, when I explained I was working they went mad and told me I would not be receiving a penny until I’ve completed the job in full and they would not be paying for the worktops until the end of the job.(apparently I should be at their house if I was working)
i explained they had broken the payment contract, and I will not be returning to work. I have offered them to just pay for the granite,so I can pay my supplier, and they can keep my labour cost just so I can get out and move on. They still refuse. I have some kitchen pieces in my van that they require to complete the job.
i have told them I’m willing to deliver them, collect granite money, and terminate the agreement, they keep my £**** which is more than enough to cover completion of the job, more than twice.
they want me to deliver kitchen bits, get it installed by someone else , then pay me .

is this acceptable behaviour? . Been self employed 26 yrs , and this is the 1 st ever
