  • Redundant role identical to alternative offered

    Hi There!

My friend (UK) has been informed that her job role is redundant, and has been invited to apply for an alternative position.

However, the alternative offered is practically identical to the current role, just with a different title and lower pay.

70% of the new job description is included in her current job description, and the remaining 30% is made up of minor tasks that she is currently required to perform anyway. The working location is the same.

Are her employers allowed to do this? My understanding is that a redundant role has to literally BE redundant, i.e. the role itself is no longer required. Surely if a 'redundant' role is being replaced by one that's the same, it isn't really redundant?

Also she's been told she needs to confirm within 3 days whether she wishes to apply, but hasn't had all her questions from her first consultancy meeting answered. She was told she'd have the answers within 3 days!

    Thank You!
