Assistance with Debt - Scotland

Hi guys, new to all this and don't really understand all the jargon. My husband and myself are in quiet a bit of debt. The debt agencies are constantly contacting us looking for payment, around 6 different companies. My father has offer to help with settling the debts if we can get the amounts reduced. Would this be something that we should try? And if so, what kind of discount should I attempt to get?

Stressed out, can't take it anymore :-(
