Hitachi default removal?

Hi I had a credit agreement with Hitachi and one of the months payments defaulted and it has now been passed to a collection agency and a default placed on my account. Is there anyway this will be removed prior to the 6 years.

I wanted to dispute this as all communications were sent to an old address and I wasn’t aware of this issue until I’ve recently checked my credit file.
