  • ME III - Man acting on their behalf on doorstep at 6.30 this morning.

    Hello everyone.

We moved to Spain 10 years ago but have still got our house in the UK which is rented out. This morning a guy acting on behalf of ME III appeared on the doorstep at 6.30 a.m. He told the tenants that he needed to hand me some paperwork in person but it was explained to him that I haven't lived at that address since 2008 so he left his mobile number which I then rang.

He said he was acting on behalf of ME III but didn't have any other information other than a client reference number. After doing a quick search it turns out ME III are part of Mortimer Clarke Solicitors. I rang them to find out what this was about and was told it is in relation to an outstanding credit card bill with Clydesdale Bank/Yorkshire Bank which amounts to £6259.08. They told me there was CCJ placed on the property in 2010 and a Charging Order in 2011. They also told me they had sent numerous letters regarding all of this but obviously they weren't forwarded to me as I have nothing whatsoever from them. They did say they can send me the paperwork via email but were more concerned with me making a payment there and then. I told them I wasn't aware of this debt until now so needed to look into things further before committing to anything.

I really don't know where to go from here - is there anything I can do or should do? I've tried searching for similar topics but just got more and more bogged down with everything I've been reading and am none the wiser. Any help (in simple terms!) would be very gratefully received. Thanks.
