  • United utilities please help

    Hi everyone.
    Need advice
we moved house 2 years ago.
Old house was rented - water bill in my husbands name. He payed united utilities for the 3 years we lived there - still have all the bank statements showing the same amount for 36 months.
Moved to our house we live in now and I put all utilities in my name.
When we left we called them and told them we were moving and that was that.
So after first 2 years of our new mortgage we are about to get a new one.
Went into Experian and found 24 late payment markers on my husbands credit file? Saying we owe them almost 500 ?
We've never had a letter to this address saying we owe them anything. They say they tried to contact him on an email address he doesn't have access to ?
I cant actually see us owing 500 on water when we paid a set amount each month for 3 years however if there is a discrepancy and we do owe anything we are prepared to pay what we owe.
They say they can't remove the late payment Marker on his file which I find unfair ,
is there anything we can do ?
Our mortgage broker said this is going to be a pretty big problem for us securing a new mortgage deal.
I thought after a certain amount of no payments they would default the credit file.
I just don't want this to ruin our chance of getting a decent mortgage and I would massively appreciate any advice if anyone has any for us

    thanks
