    So, just as the polls closed on referendum night at 10pm, Nigel Farage puts out a statement saying that ''it looks like Remain will edge it.'' Four hours later he puts out another saying he believes that ''Britain has voted to remain in the European Union on the basis of exit polls conducted by friends in the city''. Thing is his city chums had actually told him that Leave had won.

    Why would a normally bombastic and confident Nigel Farage be conceeding defeat when he had polling information telling him he'd won?
