Private debt collectors get the elbow from the Royal Borough
Debt collection from Royal Borough residents who owe the council money is to be brought back 'in house' following a decision by the authority's cabinet members last week.
The borough currently uses two enforcement agencies or bailiffs to collect its debts for it. In 2014 to 2015 they were asked to recover debts of £2,852,000 - managing to collect just over one million, of which just over a half was Council Tax arrears.
The agencies themselves earned more than £500,000.......

New income in the region of £423,000 would be generated for the Council from [Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead] Commercial Services from 2017-18 to 2019-20, along with £132,000 in savings allowing the Council to invest this in services for residents.
The Enforcement Agencies earnt between c£500,000 to £575,000 in fees and interest from the Council’s residents from collecting the debt.
