  • Gas Bill and Court Warrant

    Hi Everyone,

This is I admit a bury your head in the sand or at least has been.

My Ex took responsibility for the Gas bill and me the electricity and as part of the deal when he left he agreed to carry on paying this - clearly he didn't - they issued a CCJ and the other week a man came knocking asking me to sign to agree to a prepayment meter, I said no as the bill isn't in my name - he said doesn't matter - sign here - I didn't.

Have now had a letter addressed to the occupier stating they will be in Court on 10th for a warrant (the meter is outside so don't need access anyway).

What I need to know is am I responsible for all the outstanding debt even though my name wasn't on the account (but of course I have lived here and used it) - I am classed as disabled and have a 5yr old living with me - I do work and agree I should be paying if the ex doesn't but can they try to recover the amount from me that they have under the CCJ in my ex's name.

Also where do I go with the Court appearance? Should I attend?

This is a rented property and tenancy agreement is in my name - all seems a bit of a mess and really quite scared that they will ask me to pay amounts I will never be able to pay.

    Thanks in advance
