- Allow food to cool before putting it away in the fridge
- Never overfill a fridge to ensure the air can circulate freely
- Avoid leaving fridge doors open longer than necessary - Keep the cold air in
- make sure the seals fit tightly
- Defrost regularly if you haven't got auto defrost
- Place fridges and freezers away from cookers, heaters and out of direct sunlight
- Never allow more than 6mm (1/4) thickness of ice to build up in your freezer.

- Vegetables cook quicker in a microwave
- Cover saucepans with lids whenever possible to reduce cooking time

- Electric kettles are more efficient for boiling water than a pan on a cooker

- Whenever possible, cook small items under the grill instead of in the oven
- Once vegetables are boiling turn them down to simmer
- when boiling vegetables, use just enough water to keep them covered
- Switch your oven off as soon as possible - some dishes will continue to cook in residual heat
- many modern ovens, particularly those with fans, need little or no pre-heating
- Try and use all available space in an oven by cooking extra food for freezing
- Electric toasters are quicker and more energy effifient than electric grills for toast
- electric deep fat fryers are more economical and safer than chip pans
- Use a pressure coooker as it speeds up the cooking process
- Halogen bulbs are efficient controllable anad easy to clean
- Slow cookers are more efficient for many dishes
- When using a gas hob, don't allow the flames to burn around the outside of the pan
FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY, ALWAYS MAKE SURE THAT FOOD IS THOROUGHLY COOKED, WHICH EVER WAY YOU USE TO IMPROVE YOUR COOKING EFFICIENCY
- Always run your dishwasher with a full load whenever possible
- Use the dishwasher economy setting to clean lightly soiled dishes
- Buy a model size to meet your daily needs
- Rinse hand washed dishes in cold water rather than hot
- if you have cheaper off peak electricity, run the machine during this off peak period
