  • CoOp Energy bill months after switching

    Hi

I'm looking for some help with a supposed debt claimed by CoOp Energy after switching energy provider. We were being chased continually by Co-op saying we owed them some £1,700 sometime after we switched energy providers. It seems that the current energy provider gave them a reading which was months into us paying our new provider, for the same energy, if that makes sense. We told the Co-op that we were disputing the bill and complained to our existing provider who replied that they were passing our complaint to their disputes department:

"I can confirm I have sent your details across to our disputes department to dispute the opening electric reading. You will be updated very shortly."

We were not contacted again and by either company and felt the matter must be resolved. Now it seems like the CoOp may have sold the perceived debt on to a recovery company calling themselves Moriarty Law" saying

"Co-op Energy Limited wishes to resolve the matter without the need to start court proceedings, including agreeing a reasonable repayment plan or considering using an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedure".

We feel somewhat stuck in the middle and would really like any ideas on where to go with this. We have yet responded to Moriarty Law's letter of the 11th August, they have sent another letter dated 27th August saying if we do not respond in the next 16 days they will issue proceedings in the County Court.

Any help or advice gratefully received
