  • VT question (Renault)

Hi all, another VT question I’m afraid (although I guess it all helps people who are Googling about this in the future!).

I have sent my letter to Renault to VT my Captur and they have told me by phone that they have received the letter and have effected the termination as of 13/09/18. I am now supposed to arrange collection of the vehicle with the 3rd party company which they say I can do from Monday 17/09. That’s all fine.

My issue is that the car is due its first MOT by 23/09 and Renault say that if I cannot get the car collected before then, I need to make sure the car has a valid MOT certificate or the collector won’t take it and I will be billed £168 for an ‘abort’.

My assumption was that I have now terminated so my liability has ended, so the MOT is not my responsibility (I won’t be driving it again). I accept that I am still responsible for the car’s safe keeping until it is taken away but can they force me to get an MOT or really refuse to take it away and bill me if it hasn’t got one?

    Any thoughts much appreciated.
