  • Problems with car on HP and possible missold warranty

Bought a used car for the wife in March 2018. Air con has never worked, long story but she had it switched on but thought it was off. Recently with the heat she thought she had turned it on (actually turned it off) and no cold air blew. Then discovered she had it on the whole time but even so it hadnt been blowing cold air.

We had purchased an AA Warranty so we called them, they sent us to one of their authorised garages who tried to charge us £50 just to look at it. Warranty company had made no mention of this so we called them up and they said we didnt have to pay anything and it was all covered. Garage left us waiting over half hour in their reception so we called Warranty company back and asked to go to another garage. Gave us the details of somewhere else nearby, we called to make sure they could see us and they said they didnt deal with that warranty company. We gave up and went home but called warranty company on the way and this time they said we could go to a garage that is literally round the corner from our house (no idea why they sent us over 30 minutes away originally). Garage couldnt see us for at least 2 weeks so we called the dealer.

Dealer said to go in as his garage was authorised for the warranty work. They are almost 90 minutes from us but we went along this morning. Mechanic took a look, did a test and said there was a leak. He found it to be the air con rad. Said he wasn'r sure if it would be covered by the warranty. I told him thats not a problem as it hasn't worked since we got the car so its their responsibility to sort it. He then said he would tell warranty company it was something else in order to get it though. He called us back a few hours later to say that he had tried that but we had already reported the air con fault to the warranty company so it would now not be possible. Again I reiterated that warranty or not, its on them to sort this. He told me to ring the dealer so I did and got palmed off. Not looking hopeful for a fix now.

So what can I do to pressure the dealer into sorting this issue as it genuinely has never worked since the day we bought it?

Regarding the warranty, all of this has brought to light that my warranty is actually a guarantee. All of the documents are plastered with a logo that says AA Warranty. The dealer invoice says AA Warranty. They kept referring to it as a warranty. Now I am stuck with a guarantee thats useless as so far they havent even been able to get any of their authorised repairers to look at the car and one tried to rip me off!!

So I want to car fixing and the money refunding for the "warranty". Car was bought on HP and warranty paid for on credit card.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.
