Residents Parking Expired - PCN

My on the street resident parking expired on 4th June 2021, it's a virtual permit and so I didn't have a hardcopy displayed, the council did send me an email on 4th May 2021 but I missed this amongst the flurry of emails, I received a PCN on 9th June 2021, I appealed to the council but it's been rejected, is it worthwhile taking it further or pay and take it on the chin?

If i had a hardcopy I would have seen/known the date....
