My partner and I owe for last years council tax, we got the second reminder in Feb and I was trying to see if we could get additional financial help to help pay it so the seven days elapsed and we then got the court letter, which is when I panicked and went to the council. They told me to fill in a form regarding our finances which I did. Yesterday I got the reply saying that as we are on ESA income related they will be deducting £15 a month from our benefit as this is the minimum amount set by central government. Now I know this doesn't sound much but we only receive £77 a week after gas, electric and child maintenance payment is taking out automatically. Out of that £77 we still have to top up our rent, pay water and telephone which leaves us virtually nothing for food. Is is there anyway I can ask them to lower the payment further? The other worrying thing is we will have this years council tax to pay which is £35 a month there is no way we will be able to afford that either, is there anyone can see a way forward for us please.
