My first post here so I’m sorry if I haven’t posted in the right place. I’ve been in my property for 3 years and have always paid my rent on time or early. We rent through a well known estate agents and passed all the relevant reference checks. When we both moved in both me and my husband worked. Now only my husband works and therefore we receive a top up from universal credit. It has been this way for around 18 months and we pay our rent directly to the letting agency on time every month.
Today the letting agency rang and said the landlord wants to carry out credit and reference checks on us and as long as our circumstances haven’t changed since moving in all will be ok. My husband explained I’m no longer in work and the letting agency said this would be an issue for the landlord obtaining this insurance. My husband said where does this leave us? The letting agency said at present our tenancy isn’t at risk but they will have to see what the landlord will say.
I am slightly angry over this. We are good tenants who have never missed a payment and always pay on time. We have had no issues what so ever and now we are supposedly waiting on the landlords say as to whether our tenancy is at risk. Is this correct? Is there anything we should be doing? We have 3 children and being homeless isn’t an option.
