  • Hmrc self assessment fraud

Hi there , sorry in advance I’m not the best at punctuation etc ..

on 3rd December I received a letter from hmrc stating I owed them £100 fine . (Late penalty)

it was Paid in my absence, letter explained daily occurring charges etc

when I got to learn off this I phoned hmrc and asked what the fine was for and then the story starts

Turns out someone had made a claim for 2018-2019 in my name using all my information , For amount off around several thousand pounds.

The monies was not paid as it already bin flagged by hmrc .. so I called to ask for the £100 back , as it wasn’t me who made the claim .

The reason it wasn’t me , for one I’ve not bin self employed for 9 years , and when the actual claim was made I was in prison and that’s something I don’t need to provide much evidence for ...

my question is they won’t give me the £100 back till full investigation has taken place , it’s me who is left out off pocket with no time frame etc

plus I’m stressing they will blame this on me it was my details , and it was even a disused bank account but who ever used that account don’t know it had bin closed ..

I clearly couldn’t do it , it won’t be any gateway , any ip , and number etc

how Long does anyone know untill this is sorted out ?

    sorry about punctuation etc
