  • Divorce - the order of things ...

    Hi,

I am going through a divorce - my wife is divorcing me.

Initially, there was an opportunity to go through mediation, but for one reason or another - work pressure and me not wanting the divorce - I didn't make an appointment and it seems that that route has now been removed.

I received a Certificate of entitlement to a decree. There is a date set for the pronouncement of a decree and making of the orders. (Whatever that is).

    I'm somewhat confused.

    1) Should I have had a chance to put my side of the story (it is a fault divorce)? Not that it will change that we are getting a divorce.

    2) At what point do we talk about dividing the assets? Who decides this?

    3) Is there a way to postpone the date for the pronouncement whilst I get me act together?

    Thanks,

    Mike
