    Can they give people jobs before anyone can apply?

    I'm facing redundancy, today we were told that 7 people had been chosen to be 'assimalated' into the new roles. No interview required, no one else can apply they automatically have the job if they want it! Is this allowed? The remaining posts are only to be applied for by those invited to do so? Surely they can't do this, I'm more than qualified for some of the protected roles.
