  • Cancellation of Motor trade policy

    Right, heres the info.

Been with quotemetoday.co.uk for nigh on three years for my motor trade policy, never had an issue until now.

Stipulation of the latest policy was I had to send in copies of my licence and copies of invoices and receipts to prove I was a motor trader.

Given two weeks to do it or my policy would be cancelled.

Not a problem, all stuff done and sent off. No contact from insurance company to say anything was wrong, except yesterday I get a letter telling me that my insurance is cancelled from 7 days from the date of the letter.

    WTF?!?

So I call quotemetoday.co.uk and ask them whats going on.

They tell me they haven't received the requested details. I tell them I sent it all off in the first week.

They then tell me they've sent me emails, a text message and left voice mail.

I said why didn't they send me letter in the post if there was a problem, they tell me they conduct most of their business through email.

Well I told them to wait, and checked my email, and theres nothing from them.

So I ask them what email they've been sending stuff to, bearing in mind they've NEVER contacted me through email in the three odd years i've been dealing with them, it was an odd statement that they claimed they conducted business through email.

I asked them what email address they had, and the one they had was during my first year of insurance through them nearly three years ago!!!

So its no wonder i've had no contact.

She tries to claim its my responsibility to update them, and I tell her thats rubbish, because:

1). They've never had correspondance with me through email ever, even when the email was correct

2). They are responsible for going through ALL personal details when setting up a new policy, and that it is THEIR responsibility to check that the details they have for me are correct. They checked address, phone number, date of birth, all that fun stuff, but didn't ever bring up the email address, and seeing as they'd never bothered to contact me on it before, theres no reason for me to presume its their #1 form of contact, if it was, you'd think they'd ask!!

So then shes tries to blame Highway/Liverpool Victoria, and that they cancelled it, but when I called them, they said that they'd received instructions from quotemetoday.co.uk to cancel.

All payments to them have gone out properly, the last one was on Saturday.

I also said to them with regards email, that I know for a fact the email is dead and has been for years because of the website package I had, and any messages sent there should bounce immediately.

Funny enough, I tried to send an email to mail@autohut.co.uk and it bounced immediately.

They claim they've called me and left a voice mail, but I haven't got it, and surely, seeing as its important, they should be attempting to get through to me, not simply leaving messages. Its a work phone and any number of people have access to it.

So, the upshot is unless Highway/Liverpool Victoria sort this out, my insurance will be cancelled on the 4th May.

quotemetoday.co.uk say i'm welcome to appeal the decision, but it won't stop the insurance being cancelled.

    Any advice folks?
