Hi, we had a new front door installed a few years ago made of composite material which started cracking. The guarantee was for 10 years and it was recently replaced with an identical door. I asked about a new guarantee and was told that the original guarantee is still in place so the new door gets only around 4 years guarantee and if that cracks in 3 years time then a further replacement would only get one year guarantee. This seems to me wrong and the guarantee states that the there is 10 years guarantee from the date of supply, it doesn't stipulate from the date of supply of the original door only. I have not looked into whether there is some convention that guarantees always relate to the original product only but the wording of the guarantee seems to allow for a further guarantee to run from the date of supply of the replacement door. Anyone have any thoughts/experience of this scenario ? I have seen a few comments on the internet arguing both ways, some that the date of supply clause allows a new guarantee and some that the original guarantee should run. Others suggest reverting to statutory rights treating the goods as not fit for purpose.
