  • MONDAY MADNESS 1: Advantage Gold- prove I signed up for it

    Introduction

I have taken time out to refresh the batteries and now it the time to awaken. There is 9 weeks until Christmas and so each week a new article will be on this forum based mostly on NatWest which is my specialisation but a further update on general banking terms.

    Monday Madness 1

The most missold product I have ever known about is Advantage Gold because the lines that I have heard are various.

    "Sign this form for information"
"Have advantage gold for more interest"(that is 0.2%gross so not much more)
    " It is free for 3 months"(no it isn't)
"You need to have advantage gold to change from a cashcard to a servicecard"(utter nonsense).

I believe that an agreement in writing should exist for converting the account to Advantage Gold. If none exists then the bank owes you for Advantage Gold Fees.

Unless they produce an agreement or a reason why they will not produce it. Verbal authority is not good enough if not backed up by paperwork which they should have produced during the initial SAR request

The advice i am giving is to ask the bank to provide a signed copy of the agreement or pay back the fees taken. If you have a loan then it can be argued that you have benefitted from it but did you sign up for the account OR was it just told to you. Get the signed agreement or the money back.
