  • NHS Compensation advice

My father was attacked while in hospital by another patient in an unprovoked attack by a 'known aggressive patient'. it led to his back being broken in 4 places. he was discharged a week later with a heart rate that was going up and down and he was delirious. when he arrived at his care home they wanted to send him back as he was showing signs of sepsis [just an hour after leaving hospital]. the hospital advised he was to be monitored by the home only but after a few hours they called for an ambulance and he returned to hospital.by this point he lost consciousness. he never regained consciousness and died a few hours later. the hospital accept the accident happened and that they probably missed the signs of sepsis. i am taking legal action for medical negligence for the attack being allowed to happen and a failure of safeguarding my father who was know to have osteoporosis and also for allowing him to be discharged while so obviously poorly. I need help and guidance please on what amount of compensation i should expect and what amount should i consider appropriate? my solicitor just keeps saying 'a moderate payout' but what does that mean please? i know it will never bring my father back but i want to get justice for the awful situation he was subjected to in the hope that this will never be able to happen again. any advice would be appreciated. thank you x
