The most important thing for the average consumer in addition to the cost is the quality of the service provided. Offer the operator, for example, super-cheap tariffs with a low quality pstn terminal, nothing good will come out of it. On the other hand, if I call via pstn to pstn, 99% guarantee a quality connection. Yeah, I'm not arguing, the future is for VoIp. But only if the delay on the network is no more than 50-150 ms.

Something we may have to bear in mind for the future as the normal PSTN is to be turned off in approx 5 years or so. Hopefully by then the ISPs will include the likes of VOIP in their offerings. Skype & Messenger are forms of this.

Functions and opportunities of VoIP have become almost limitless because this service in the market for over 10 years only increases its customer base. You can make calls all over the world without thinking about the cost of a minute of talk. My suppliers, mainly from Japan (spare parts store for Japanese cars) and call them 4-5 times a day through local operators - the pleasure is not cheap, so over here, I needed VoIP.
