Can I borrow some money from my mother?
I have had LPA for many years but have not used it.
In October 2025 told one of her banks I wished to help with her finances due to lack of mental capacity.
I have recently moved some of her money with this bank to a higher interest account & transfered some money in different bank to an ISA I intend to open another ISA for her in the next tax year.
Prior to my Mother's dementia diagnosis she had suggested we borrow some money from her to renovate a property my husband & I own but we were waiting for my husband's inheritance from a relative on his side of the family.
As previous posts my husband has not been able to realise the money he should have inherited years ago & it is now apparent he is not going to receive it.
I would like to borrow approximately £30k - subject to builders quotes. I would anticipate being able to repay the money in 6 - 12 maximum when the property is sold
I am the main benifcariy of my Mother's will & there are sufficient funds to pay the named benifcaries should my Mother'die before I repay the borrowed money.
I assume Ineed a "written contract "??
