  • Beneficiarie

    Hi

My nan passed away november 2023. There was no will and therefore beneficiaries were closest family. She left 2 sons and my mum who has passed away. I therefore became a beneficiarie. I was contacted by one of the sons solicitors and was asked to accept 20000 instead of my share which would be more I sent back what I would accept and have heard nothing since. I sent this back to his solicitor last summer. We dont talk but through the grape vine I know letters of administration have been passed and the house has been sold. I have emailed his solicitor in the interim but had no response. I wonder what the lack of communication is about? If they accepted my offer surely I would have been notified? Or they have managed to cut me out?

    Any advice much appreciated

Can I check I have this correct please (I assume your nan was living in England).

At the time your nan died she had no living spouse. Your nan had three children, two sons and one daughter (your mother). The sons are still living but your mother has died.

Did your mother die before or after your nan died?

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Do you know the total value of your nan's Estate? If not then you can go to the government probate site and download a copy of the Letters of Administration (costs about £1) and that will have the declared estate value. Search probate records for documents and wills (England and Wales) - GOV.UK

      Hello,

Thank you for the reply. To just answer your questions.. my nan did live in England, she had no living spouse, my mum died before my nan, and I have no brothers or sisters. I find it odd that I haven't heard anything and jus would like to know if there is a way they may have cut me out?

      Thank you

Something doesn't seem right here as based on the information you have given you should be entitled to one third of your Nan's Estate. As there was a property involved (now sold) I would have thought that one third would be much more than £20,000.

Nor do.I understand why the solicitor would need to make you an offer of £20,000 which you say was less than your share.

Please go to the link I posted in post #2 and download a copy of the Letters of Administration and post on here

        1. What date were the Letters of Administration issued?

        2. Who are named as the Administrators? (Not their names but is it your mother's brothers or the solicitor or someone else?

        3. What is the value of the Estate that your nan left? (It should be shown on the Letters of Administration)

16 months since your nan died and her property has been sold
My advice is to write a formal letter to the solicitor pointing the above out and request a copy of the estate accounts
As a main beneficiary you are entitled to a copy
